The Montessori Curriculum at Growing Minds

Growing Minds Montessori School has built a tradition of educating children based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori for over 10 years. We believe that children need opportunities to make choices thereby fostering independence, self-esteem, and self-discipline and respect for fellow students. A multi-sensory approach maximizes learning because it allows for individual learning styles.

The program allows for the curriculum to follow the child rather than the child fitting into a set curriculum where all children are doing the same work at the same time.

"We do not believe in the educative power of words and commands alone, but seek cautiously, and almost without the child's knowing it, to guide his natural activity".

Dr. Maria Montessori

Self-Motivation

Dr. Maria Montessori recognized that the only valid impulse to learning is the self-motivation of the child. Under the guidance of certified Montessori directresses, the children develop at their own pace. They discover their own innate abilities and develop a strong sense of independence, self-confidence, and self-discipline.

Dr. Maria Montessori created what she called the "prepared environment". This includes an ordered arrangement of sequential learning materials designed to be developmentally appropriate. The materials allow each child to develop at their own individual pace.

The teacher prepares the environment, offers activities and functions as an observer in order to help the process of “learning how to learn”.

Children move about and choose materials from easily accessible shelves. They work on floor mats or at small tables.

“Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment”

Dr. Maria Montessori

Integrated Montessori Curriculum

Dr. Montessori felt the child from birth to six years old has an absorbent mind that soaks up impressions at a fantastic rate. The more the child encounters, the easier it is for him to retain it. A child who is offered many varied experiences from a guiding rather than leading adult will have a richer, happier life and will come closer to reaching his/her full potential.

Growing minds Montessori offers a specifically designed bright and inviting environment filled with intriguing learning materials. We encourage children to work quietly and independently, taking care of themselves, the materials, and the classroom, keeping the environment neat and orderly.
